This arc has been a rocky ride; I hope this scene makes up for it. It means a lot to me, and is an important moment for the story as well.

That wraps up Chapter 13: Waiting for Dad… . The next chapter will begin after a 2-week break. I’ll see you on Feb 1st! You can expect to see some things from me on tumblr and Twitter in the meantime.

Very nice!

It took a while to realize that he was feeling for pulse on the dead man. At first I thought he was rummaging through the folds of Ethan’s clothes. Maybe a little more saturation on the dead man’s skin, or show an ear… I don’t know. Once recognized it’s very clear what’s in the picture though.

That was a tricky thing to capture. I think the saturation is fine, but deciding the angle and crop of the face was difficult because I didn’t want to show any more than what was strictly necessary? I didn’t want a corpse show. In retrospect, if his outer shirt had some sort of distinct embroidery or something along the collar, that would’ve provided an easy visual cue…

He has a distinct blue hairband with a distinct contrasting motif, I think just zooming out a bit so that we could see that would have made it crystal clear! Though I still understood after a split second, so it wasn’t a long confusion for me either. ouob

I wish I knew what Lushaka was thinking. >O

I wonder if Ethan understood that the big tiger corpse he was playing with the whiskers of earlier was a kitty guy just like Lushaka. Or what if someone told him they don’t know if the kitty guy had kids… xD

Shhhh, you might make Ethan’s heart bleed even more than it is right now!

If Mr. Jaguar has kids, they sure aren’t gonna be in Keol (unless they also came through the gate). Renchos can’t reproduce in Keol; there’s something in the water/atmosphere in this world that’s deadly to their newborns.

Oh my gosh, that’s so sad for any Renchos who wanna be parents. I wonder if any of them ever decided to adopt, though it would have to be other races than their own, since the newborns womb-transferred wouldn’t survive either, right? Also gotta wonder what would happen what a Rencho would think of a furry convention in our world… I FEEL LIKE TELLING THEM ALLLLLL ABOUT IT /hurr

I’m really looking forward to finding out where this’ll take his relationship with Lushaka!

Well, he did hear that guy saying his friends have been taken by a Rencho, so he knows it was a dead Rencho. The possibility of the guy possibly having kids definitely hasn’t crossed his mind, though. I think seeing the corpse in its gigantic fluffy form (rather than humanoid) may have contributed to that, even though logically, it shouldn’t be relevant. It probably felt more surreal to him than anything else.

A lot of them would find the very idea of conventions (of ANY kind) rather bizarre. XD Those who have been in Keol for a while would chalk it up as “another one of those human things.”

also I knew right away he was testing for a pulse, which is what made it even more sad ;( I think the saturation is fine since he’s dead and is therefor blue, not to mention he’d also be waterlogged @_@;;

Yeah… the actual dead guy may be of no concern to Ethan, but it’s the living he’s crying for. The boy left behind, plus his own 11-year-old self.

That last panel is so beautiful.

I hope it is as memorable as it is beautiful~

It’s probably my favorite moment in the story so far.

Aww. For a moment there I thought he would do some magic on him and resurrect him.

That would’ve been useful…

Oh, man, that’s rough. Especially with Ethan connecting it in his mind to his dad, and whatever state his dad came back in that he wasn’t dead but didn’t recognize his family anymore…

Also, Lushaka please get out of that water with your feet like that. Those burns or abscesses or whatever they are do not look like they want dead-body-and-fish-leavings-water. I know you’re a very tough kitty but stop.

Yeah… he was not ready to be the deliverer of bad news for that boy. :(

Lushaka may regret standing in that river the next day…
